And I will not suscribe to IRental (I chose where I spend what I earn, and I do not appreciate how this project and company are advertising / marketing what looks like an excellent product) as long as there is a suitable alternative around.

On the other hand I enjoy reading this thread and seing how LFSrs make their way through IRental, so there is no need for that rant to be any longer. Thank you Intrepid, you made it clear !

No way to my knowledge.
However the training lessons are useful after a new patch because of the changes in the patch, that often affect your driving.
For example the addition of clutch temperature has modified the way you can drive / launch the cars, so it is not too bad that you have to start again.
Furthermore the last lessons are not really good, only AIs overtaking... that you can do in single player with more variety and better setups.

This is out of date, and is not currently updated.
However if you press "4" you get a driving line with a colour code, green full throttle to red braking.
The line changes for each car / track.
This is one of the features that existed in the ghost car mod, now in game.
Good luck!

AIs don't train anymore I think. No more updated files after AI races like there used to be.

Quote from Eneko :Hey Mille. I'm only playing for a few days now and already I'm thinking about changing from keys to mouse control. Having the throttle and brake on the mouse doesn't seem logical to me and I want them on the kb, like you recommend. However, do you have your gearchanges on the mouse buttons instead or also on the kb?

Greets!

Gears on the mouse work well, as gear changes does not happen so often and do not alter steering this much (on click instead of repeated pressure).
I also found that steering + throttle / brake on the mouse makes it painfull quickly (too much force on the buttons + pain in the wrist after a few minutes).
I recently got a G25 wheel but I foresee months of practice before I get back to the speed I had with the mouse
However the feeling / immersion can not be compared, even if I am now back to newbie pace I will not get back to mousing.

Good luck!

Vacation week - no time for G25
I will enjoy the lovely weather with my wife and kids, and watch a few movies, some wine, etc...
No basement but neither a warm welcome for the G25, plus I have to disassemble and store it after use because I have no desk, and learn using it with as little noise as possible, paddle shit and slow release of the pedals at the moment, FFB 15-20% at best
Might take some time, but I made progress
I'll keep the wheel for a while, it cost me 210€ plus nearly the same for a handbag and a purse already, maybe more to come...
Damn that's an expensive wheel.

See you online but probably next week only.

Not bad... I have access to a huge workshop where I work, I may design some parts for modifications and have them machined out of aluminum some day (when I reach the limits of the pedal set, now struggling to apply correct brake pressure - is the nixim mod ONLY a rubber pad? What thickness / stroke left on brake pedal? I have many samples of rubber and could try a few different hardnesses.
Any chance to get measurements of your spacers if they feel comfortable?

Thanks

Forget it...
I got the G25 in the end, and buying this made me feel like a teenager, with a mixed feeling of shame and joy common during this period.
So I can say the first G25 effect is to make me feel 20 odd years younger

Second effect is my lap times dropped 2-4 seconds/minute
I'll see the third effect tonight when the wife and kids get back from vacation and find out :arge:

I think it is a pretty interesting challenge to program racing AIs that behave and make good times using the same game physics as us (no dirty trick here!), so Scawen might be pulled into trying again soon - After all LFS not only here for our fun but also for his and the rest of the dev team

That's in 10 years time - my guess
So plenty of time to enjoy!

Now discussing mods - this LFS tweak is here and spreading like a disease, whatewer we want or say here.
I have seen no official reaction apart from mods dutifully removing links, attachements or too obvious references. I'm missing a statement from the dev team here...

Sorry for the hijack but it seems to me that modding is already at the gate, so I think it would be better to discuss how that will be handled rather than allowing it or not.

Check their website...

I posted the following suggestion there, sorry but I have no idea how feasible it is or how long it would take
Any chance to look into the user setup?
This would get the edge over competition if you could put together either:
  • Check that setup values are within accepted boundaries (limit sliders range)
  • Check intake restriciton and ballast
  • Check that the setup corresponds to the server or one of the server forced setups - send the above to the user.
Or maybe all of them

That would indeed put a lot of stress on the pedal, especially if I get it correctly the nixim mod involves having the pedal travel limited with a hard rubber pad to simulate RL brakes.
If the added part is bolted (sandwich like to prevent damage) and "bendable", i.e. with lower mechanical resistance that the rest of the assembly, that would bend (and eventually break) before you damage the pedal itself. 1mm sheet metal maybe?

Don't post random useless stuff please.

Here is my setup, jpg attached.
I modify the button control rate from 3.0 to 4.0 according to the car I use:
TBOs and LRF usually 3 to 3.5
FBM 4 or more if you want to be able to change gears
Low powered car 4 or more

Faster cars with more power and downforce 3 or less but still hard to control on/off, requires some tapping...

Tip: I separated the throttle and brake from the mouse and back on kb, that makes steering more stable.

Adjust brake strength, usually down a lot, and move the bias to prevent lockups.

You can get decent lap times with the mouse, it takes longer to get them because of the lack of feeling - check my stats, as mid-pack driver, and Palluka's stats for alien fast mouser.

I use a MX1000 laser mouse, excellent and I have had it for a few years with no issue - I can say control is probably as good as a non FFB wheel but the onoff keyboard "pedals" are the worst of things. Force yourself to use minimal steering input if you want speed and tyres that last.

LFS will become frustrating with a mouse, but you still have a few months ahead for this to happen. I need a wheel

If you want to race on demo, good competition and fair admins, try (only examples)
Zion race demo for XRG, XFG - but be warned most drivers here run 1.34xx or less regularly and want to win badly, so it may be challenging. I get owned in there

PINK server demo if it is still on
less reliable
GanzGenau, Bremskille.de

For FBM, Royalzeropub Hun
or the league servers

Everything correct up to the "oval" bit.

AIs don't draft properly and have a tendency to crash during high speed overtaking attempts (wild steering inputs), so either they swerve wildly or brake on the straight causing chain collisions.
Try them on non oval tracks, they are much more interesting.

Thanks for the link. Damn that's noisy...compared to how quiet the flat is at night.
I play 3m away from my wife watching TV and no wall in between so I think it's a no go
I can always remove the gear from FFB but then it become little better than my mouse

I'll see tomorrow after work if I can get my hand on one. Although 100€ for a few days make it more costly than IRental

Edit:
No DFPGT in store
Found a crappy looking logitech formula ex and the same wireless with 200° - approx 75€
Found a momo wheel - €130
and 2 G25 wheel lurking in the end of the shelf... 210€ approx. Is it a good price?
Would it be playable on my limited rig? Enjoyable with a small screen?
Laptop Dell M65 , intel core 2 7600 at 2.33, 2GB ram, nvidia quadro 350M 256Mo (weak point) with a 15.4 screen...

I have to talk with my wife sometime, better start furbishing my plea

I would not push it too far, time is on my side with LFS developpement speed
I'm looking for an off the shelf product to buy in a nearby store, so that I get at least a few days use before retaliation... Being in Switzerland it looks like logitech / PS2, 3 products are more likely to be found.
My budget could be higher but what is important is how much I spend cowardly now.
Fanatec as I read is 300€, too big to sneak in even if I will most certainly miss a clutch + shifter. One step at a time... maybe FFB off to start with.
Do these things rumble under use? How loud (never seen one) - dishwasher, fridge or blender?

Quote from Mazz4200 :And don't worry about the feeling old thing, i left the twenty something brigade over a decade ago, but my brain still thinks it's living in a 14 year olds body...

Congrats as well, + 1 above - never forget you ARE young or you will get caught...

My nappies days are now over (4.5 and 6) - feeling better, I don't know where the years in between went though. And some (single no kids) friends vanished in the process somehow together with some money I was sure was sitting in my bank account.

Good luck and enjoy as much as possible, you'll regret the first year in... approx 13 years time

Stuffi,While it may sound like a good idea it has a major drawback:Who is rating you?

Enter a populated server and you get 12 bad votes instantely, just for fun, while each one of these kids gets 11 good ones...How do you balance this at the end of the day?

Try to search a little bit in this forum, many other ways have been discussed before - no real solution exist unfortunately. Find better servers and stick to them, if you ever get S2 it becomes easier (but not 100% guarantee there).

Systems such as CTRA rely on people reporting such incidents to an admin pool, who then judge the replays and apply penalties afterwards. Some servers are run with a live admin, relying on the admin ethics for these decisions.

Good luck - this place is like everywhere else, with its share of and most people trying to be fair and have fun respecting each other.

I may be looking for a wheel (not sure yet as it implies doing so while wife and kids are away on holidays - consequenses may help me understand the true meaning of force feedback )I would like a little noise as possible - any tips? Is that GT wheel quiet / how does it compare with other wheels?I am willing to compromise a lot for silence as it may be the difference between use / no use of the wheel...Any other suggestion, not too expensive wheels as this may be a waste of money, on the quiet side? Thanks

Go for LX4, LX6 pro AIs, start from the back of the grid and report back - still an easy win?
I can only get to midfield on WE, these suckers do never make enough mistakes.

I agree!
I want an arcade mode with no damage and easier to drive cause I crash each turn above 200mph, that is too hard
I want an option to eliminate tyre heating and clutch heating for drifting and cruising
I want auto setup options to find the best setup for a track

And I want the XRT back...

Oh wait, wrong thread again?

Agreed with xaotik.
If you experience clutch overheating:
0) Do not flatshift
1) Check your gear ratios, 1st gear probably too long
2) Autoclutch kills - assign a button clutch as well and use it when necessary. For example when you spin with autoclutch on and do not step off the throttle the autoclutch will try to accelerate the car even if it's sliding backwards --> dead clutch.
3) Check a spr replay of your driving to see your gear shift timing, may be wrong?
